if this isn't sustainability...

i have blogged about sheena and the uniform project before. and i have continued to click on that site EVERY SINGLE DAY since i found her. this is one of the most amazing stories of sustainability i have ever come across and been inspired by. sheena has committed to wear the same dress every day for one year. that is putting on the same little black dress for 365 days in a row, whether she feels like it or not. but she is one committed gal. "why is she doing this?" you may ask. well she is doing it for a cause. she wants to help those less fortunate than she is. if you really want to read the reasons why go to her page and read it. she does a much better job than i do of explaining it. if you are able then donate to her cause as much as you can, even if it's a little. also there are ONLY 9 more days to vote for sheena and the dress's designer eliza starbuck at the NAU website. this organization is going to give $10,000 to the person/group/charity that gets the most votes and that much money would go a long way in reaching sheena's vision. so go and vote for this project. donate if you can. and spread the word!

how long would the longest scarf in the world be? well there is an organization that is trying to find out. keep the fleece is hosting a fundraiser for http://www.heifer.org/. teams sign up to knit/crochet/weave sections of scarf and raise money at the same time. the scarves must be made from natural fibers and team sign up to donate a dollar a row. i would like to do this but my area is financially tapped out... i'm still thinking bout it tho. the money goes towards buying animals that can provide fleese, milk, etc for farmers in undeveloped countries. check it out and see what you think. i think it's a great sustainable cause.

i have found a great company that in their words provides "Natural, earth-friendly, wooden and organic cotton toys for children and babies." they are hazelnut kids and i love their stuff. i haven't bought anything yet but i certainly plan to. i have signed up for their newsletter and will be receiving $5 off my first order...who can beat that? they have reasonable prices, wooden toys in great colors and they are earth-friendly. go check them out and pick something up for the kids or babies in your life!

this is the first of my ***sustainable saturday*** posts. every saturday i will bring someone to your attention that is doing crafts, community service, or the like that is all about sustainability. producing items with sustainable materials or educating the public about recycling in a new and fun way. get the picture?

so today's find is leslie yang of feisty elle.... she is creating adorable accessories from bamboo and felted wool that you just have to see. go visit her and pick up some of her products. i know i will be buying something in the near future. (the earring above is from her website and shows her bamboo dahlia.)
